The genesis of this case is a substitute information charging the defendant with murder in violation of General Statutes §§ 53a-54a and 53a-8, conspir*226acy to commit murder in violation of General Statutes §§ 53a-48 (a) and 53a-54a, criminal attempt to commit murder in violation of General Statutes §§ 53a-49 (a) (2), 53a-8 and 53a-54a and carrying a pistol without a permit in violation of General Statutes §§ 29-28 and 29-35.
