Appellants, certain black police sergeants (the “Officers”) employed by the City of Miami (the “City”), brought suit in state court for monetary and injunctive relief against the City. The complaint alleged that the City implemented discriminatory employment practices made unlawful by the Florida Civil Rights Act. After a prior dismissal of the Officers’ lawsuit in federal court for lack of federal jurisdiction and subsequent refiling of this action in state court, the trial court granted the City’s motion for final summary judgment based upon lack of subject matter jurisdiction and dismissed…
