On June 25, 2004, defendant, Stevan G. Newman, filed an amended petition for postconviction relief, alleging he received ineffective assistance of counsel and the trial court failed to properly admonish him regarding the period of mandatory supervised release (MSR) he was required to serve in connection with his sentence. On September 1, 2004, the court dismissed defendant’s petition on the State’s motion.
