In this case Wisconsin lawyers, John Cro-setto, Kenneth Doran, and Douglas Kammer (“Plaintiffs”), have alleged that the State Bar of Wisconsin, Stephen Smay (the Executive Director of the Wisconsin Bar), and the Justices of the Wisconsin Supreme Court (“Defendants”), violated Plaintiffs’ First Amendment rights by requiring Plaintiffs both to join the Wisconsin State Bar and to contribute money for certain political causes in order to practice law in the State.
