Defendant, Ricardo Cuadros Mendoza, was charged by indictment with two counts of murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1989, ch. 38, pars. 9— 1(a)(1), (a)(2)), in connection with the killing of Tranquilino Salinas. Prior to trial the defendant moved to quash his arrest and suppress his inculpatory statements to police. Following a hearing, the defendant’s motion was denied, and the case proceeded to trial. A jury found the defendant guilty of murder, and the court sentenced the defendant to a term of 34 years in the State penitentiary, with credit for time served in the Lake County jail.
