In this action against defendants, Chemung County Department of Social Services (hereinafter DSS) and two of its former employees, plaintiffs, Connie F. Van Emrik and Richard H. Van Emrik, individually and on behalf of their infant daughters, seek damages for intentional torts and negligence allegedly committed by defendants in connection with certain actions taken during their investigation of plaintiffs as possible perpetrators in the suspected abuse of one of their daughters.
