This case arises from a tragic house fire that occurred on February 4, 1999, in which three of defendant’s young children died. The prosecutor charged defendant with three counts of involuntary manslaughter, MCL 750.321; MSA 28.553, alleging that she caused the fire while intoxicated. Before the district court scheduled a preliminary examination, the prosecutor moved to admit evidence regarding the blood alcohol test administered to defendant on the morning of the fire, arguing that the evidence was not protected by the statutory physician-patient privilege, MCL 600.2157; MSA 27A.2157.
