In this proceeding the court is called upon to review the action of the respondent, the mayor of the city of Hudson, in removing petitioners from their offices as commissioners of public safety of that city.

The Charter of the City of Hudson (Laws of 1921, chap. 669) makes provision for a commission of public safety, to be a body corporate, with power to sue and defend in all courts, and authorizes the mayor to appoint the members thereof, consisting of three, each of whom shall hold office for a period of three years.
