Following a jury trial, defendant was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon, MCL 750.227; MSA 28.424. Subsequently, defendant pled guilty to being an habitual offender, fourth offense, MCL 769.12; MSA 28.1084. Defendant was sentenced to ten to fifteen years in prison and now appeals as of right. We affirm.

On appeal, defendant argues that the trial court committed error requiring reversal in allowing defendant to appear pro se at trial without determining whether he was competent to conduct his own defense. Defendant maintains that he was denied his right to counsel because the trial court…
