A jury found the defendant, Jose Colon, guilty of one count of murder in violation of General Statutes § 53a-54a (a)1 and one count of conspiracy to commit murder in violation of General Statutes §§ 53a-482 and 53a-54a (a). The trial court sentenced him to a term of imprisonment of fifty-five years on the murder conviction and twenty years on *589the conspiracy conviction, to ran concurrently, for a total effective sentence of fifty-five years.
