I. INTRODUCTION

Arguing that "a pet is not just a thing but occupies a special place somewhere in between a person and a piece of personal property," 1 Julie A. Juelfs (formerly Goug) appeals a superior court ruling modifying her and her former husband Stephen J. Gough's dissolution agreement to grant sole custody of their dog Coho to Stephen.
