— The fourth section of the act of 1812, “ for ascertaining the titles and claims to lands, in that part of Louisiana which lies east of the river Mississippi, and island of New Orleans,” directs, that persons claiming lands in that “ tract of country,” by virtue of any grant, order of survey, or otherevidence of claim whatsoever, “derived from the French, British, or Spanish governments,” shall exhibit their claims to the commissioner appointed for the examination of the same, that he may cause them to be recorded, &c.
