On June 6, 2000, the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office requested that the court appoint a special prosecutor to *443investigate allegations of wrongdoing by county employees in the Dirk Van Ort case. The allegations of wrongdoing by county employees were contained in a sworn affidavit by Christina K. Mahoney, director of personnel for Rensselaer County, dated May 30, 2000.
