CUDAHY, Circuit Judge.

Andrew Sallenger, who suffered from mental illness, died on April 30, 2002, while the defendants were placing him under arrest. Mary Sallenger, his mother and the administrator of his estate, brought this lawsuit against the City of Springfield and the three police officers involved in this incident, among other parties, alleging a claim under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 pursuant to the Fourth Amendment’s right to be free from excessive force, among other claims.
