The general facts involved in these appeals were stated by the learned judge of the district court as follows:

“This collision occurred in Pollock Ilip Slue, on Nantucket Shoals, between 8 and 9 o’clock in 1he morning of July 24, 1892, in a fog of great density. The Alva was a large steam pleasure yacht of steel or iron, and at the time was going from Bar Harbor to New York, with the owner and his guests on board.
