Defendant, Carl Guidry, was charged by information with two counts of first-degree murder. (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, pars. 9—1(a)(1), (a)(2).) Following a bench trial, defendant was convicted initially of first-degree murder. However, after hearing arguments on post-trial motions, the trial court vacated its finding of guilty of first-degree murder, entered a finding of guilty of second-degree murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, par. 9—2(a)) and sentenced defendant to a term of 15 years’ imprisonment in the Illinois Department…
