Before the court are two orders to show cause seeking amicus curiae status. The underlying action was brought by New York State Senator Carl Kruger against Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein, and the New York City Department (or Board) of Education (collectively known as City) seeking to set aside a proposed reorganization of the New York City school system as a de facto elimination of community school districts in violation of various provisions of the Education Law.
