This was an action of assumpsit brought by appellee, (hereafter referred to as plaintiff,) against the appellants, (hereafter referred to as defendants,) to recover the balance due on a promissory note given for the principal sum of $4000. Plaintiff is a lawyer, and at the time the note was given was practicing his profession in Jacksonville, Illinois, and the note, it is claimed by him, was given for services rendered at the time the note was given and to be thereafter rendered as attorney. The case was tried before the court without a jury and resulted in a judgment in favor of plaintiff…
