OPINION

LANSING, Judge.

The Ramsey County District Court modified Thomas Wukawitz Jr.’s 140-month prison sentence to include a 60-month concurrent and coterminous conditional-release term. We conclude that the conditional-release term may not corn- menee before the defendant has been released from incarceration, but the district court may reduce the conditional-release term so that the total period of possible incarceration does not exceed the upper limit of the sentence negotiated in the plea agreement.
