| following a fatal automobile accident on the evening of April 21, 2007, the state charged defendant in a 12-count bill of information with a variety of crimes, including vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injuring, driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and cocaine, and several traffic offenses. In all, defendant faced a maximum possible sentence of nearly 50 years imprisonment.
