I. SUMMARY

On September 24, 2002, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (the “PTO”) issued U.S. Patent No. 6,455,275 (the “ ’275 patent”). The Trustees of Co lumbia University in the City of New York (“Columbia”) own the ’275 patent. The plaintiffs in these five cases are drug companies. They each license a portfolio of patent rights from Columbia, including the ’275 patent (the “Axel patents”).
