L FACTS AND PROCEDURAL HISTORY
On November 4, 2013, the grandfather of Defendant, Laken Andrew Johnson, was found dead in his bath tub. An expert in forensic pathology testified the victim had a “shotgun gunshot wound on his abdomen,” and the death was determined to be a homicide. According to a statement given by Defendant (age eighteen at the time), he accidentally shot his grandfather, with whom he lived. Defendant also told police that he planned to meet a girl in Houston.
