The plaintiff was seriously injured on August 12, 1964, when his 1963 Cadillac automobile crossed the median strip of the Massachusetts Turnpike and collided with an oncoming car. The Cadillac, manufactured by the defendant, was equipped with an optional item known as a controlled differential.
