OPINION

GRIFFIN, Circuit Judge.

Following a jury trial, defendant Derrick Johnson was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g). In this sentencing appeal, Johnson asserts that the district court erred in ordering his federal and state-court sentences to be served consecutively without proper articulation. On cross-appeal, the government contends that the district court erred in refusing to sentence Johnson as an “armed career criminal” under 18 U.S.C. § 924(e).
