I. INTRODUCTION
Plaintiffs Irene and John Katrensky seek compensatory and punitive damages against the defendant United States of America for personal injuries Mrs. Katrensky sustained when she slipped and fell while entering the United States Veterans Hospital in Tuskegee, Alabama. The plaintiffs allege that the United States, in their operation of the Veterans Hospital, acted negligently and wantonly in failing to maintain its premises in a reasonably safe condition.
