1Opinion of the Court

The opinion of the court was delivered by

Miller, J.:

Albert Dale Williams was convicted by a jury in Riley County district court of first degree murder under the felony-murder rule, K.S.A. 21-3401, and was sentenced to life imprisonment. He brings a direct appeal to this court. The primary issue presented is whether the trial court erred in failing to conduct a second inquiry as to the defendant’s competence to waive his constitutional right to the assistance of counsel, following certain conduct of the defendant outside of the courtroom after the first day of trial.
