Before the court is the motion of the defendant Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for summary judgment filed pursuant to Rule 56(b) 1 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. The plaintiff Alma S. Haley filed this lawsuit in state court to recover contractual, extra-contractual and punitive damages based on the defendant’s denial of her claim for long-term disability benefits under an Allstate Insurance Company Group Long Term Disability Plan (the “group plan”).
