FLAUM, Circuit Judge.

This is an appeal from the defendants’ convictions of conspiracy to transport illegal aliens into and within the United States. 1 For the reasons set forth below, we affirm the defendants’ convictions.

In the spring and summer of 1981, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (“INS”) investigated a smuggling operation that transported undocumented aliens from Tijuana, Mexico, to Los Angeles and then to Chicago.
