ELLETT, Chief Justice:

This case arises out of a divorce action filed by the respondent against the appellant. Respondent has a minor child, her offspring by a previous marriage, born about two months before his mother’s marriage to the appellant. Although four children were born to the respondent and the appellant during the time they were together, all four died either at birth or in their infancy. Because of this and because the appellant, the child’s stepfather, had never formally adopted him, respondent did not seek child support in her divorce complaint. Appellant counter-claims that he…
