This action was brought to recover damages for personal injuries sustained by the plaintiff under the following circumstances:
The plaintiff was a physician and surgeon at Bridgeport, in the State of Connecticut. On the 21st day of October, 1898, he drove •a horse attached to a top wagon along one of the public streets of Bridgeport, and had stopped in front of the residence of one of his patients.
