TERRY, Associate Judge:

In March 1977 an unknown assailant shot Steven Cooper and a fellow inmate at Lorton Reformatory. Cooper filed suit against the District of Columbia, seeking damages for its alleged negligence and medical malpractice. A jury found for Cooper on the first claim, awarding him $25,-000, and for the District on the second. Cooper appealed from the ensuing judgment, contending that the trial court had erroneously limited the jury’s consideration of evidence of psychological injury to the malpractice claim.
