This matter comes to us by way of transfer from the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.
THE PARTIES AND PROCEDURAL HISTORY
Texaco, Inc. and two of its wholly owned subsidiaries instituted reorganization proceedings under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in the Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. The Chapter 11 proceedings were precipitated by a Texas state court judgment in the amount of some $10.5 billion rendered against Texaco and in favor of Pennzoil Company.
