Kenneth Dean Pex-kins appeals fi-om the advex-se judgment entered by the district coux-t 2 ' on his section 1983 failure-to-protect claim. Perkins argues that the court clearly erred in finding that appellees adequately protected him while he was a pretrial detainee. We affirm.

I. BACKGROUND

On September 8,1995, Perkins was arrested for public intoxication. He was booked at the Sebastian County, Arkansas, Adult Detention Center and placed in a holding cell for approximately five and one-half hours.
