The Raritan and Delaware Bay Railroad Company was incorporated in 1854. Its corporate name was changed to The New Jersey Southern Railroad Company, in 1870. Under the powers granted in its charter, the company con*314structed a railroad from Port Monmouth, on the Raritan bay, to Ateo, in the county of Camden, together with branch railroads from Eatontown to Long Branch, in the county of Monmouth; from Manchester to Toms River, in the county of Ocean; and from Atsion, in the county of Burlington, to Jackson, in the county of Camden.
