This case comes before us on our grant of defendant Larry Walker s petition for review of the Court of Appeals’ decision in State v. Walker, No. 91,721, unpublished opinion filed January 14, 2005. The question presented is whether the provisions of K.S.A. 2004 Supp. 21-4720(b)(2) require a sentencing court, when sentencing a defendant for multiple felony convictions, to designate the defendant’s severity level 1 crime, which according to the decision in State v.
