Arleen Dowdy, hereinafter referred to as the plaintiff, while riding in a car driven by Mae C. Thoms, hereinafter referred to as the defendant, was injured when that car collided with another driven by Oleanda Scott at a street intersection in the city of Lynchburg. In an action for damages for her injuries the plaintiff recovered a verdict and judgment of $18,000 in the court below against the defendant, Thoms, who appeals claiming that the lower court erred in (1) ruling that the scene of the collision was a “residence district” as defined in Code, § 46.1-1(24), and instructing the jury…
