The petitioner, Dante Nardini, sought a writ of habeas corpus commanding his release from imprisonment under sentences imposed after two criminal convictions, claiming that he had been denied effective assistance of counsel when his attorney failed to raise constitutional due process objections to the use, for impeachment purposes, of two prior felony convictions obtained when he was not represented by counsel.
