OPINION OF THE COURT

SCIRICA, Circuit Judge

This case comes to us from the District Court of the Virgin Islands. Louis Smith was convicted of first degree murder, V.I. Code Ann. tit. 14, § 922(a)(1),1 and unlawful possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, V.I. Code Ann. tit. 14, § 2253(a). He was sentenced to life imprisonment on the murder *334count, and five years' imprisonment on the firearm count.
