This suit was commenced on the 16th day of September, 1882. The plaintiff in this ■case was a physician and surgeon, and a professor of surgery in the University of Michigan, and had been during the previous ten years. He brought his suit against the defendant for libel, in the Superior Court of the city of Detroit, for the publication of an article in the Evening News on the 11th day of Sept ber, 1882, and recovered damages in the sum of $20,000.
