Appellant Lawrence M. Lanoue (Lanoue) appeals his convictions and sentence for interstate transportation of a stolen motor vehicle, 18 U.S.C. § 2312 (Count V), interstate transportation of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, 18 U.S.C. § 922(k) (Count VI), and conspiracy to commit federal offenses, 18 U.S.C. § 371 (Count I). Lanoue contends that he is entitled to a new trial on all counts because the trial court abused its discretion by refusing to declare a mistrial when the government cross examined a critical defense witness with Lanoue’s own statements…
