On the night of J uly 7, 1892, at about one or two o’clock, *747a party of six or.more men appeared at the residence of Brice Adair. They surrounded the house and demanded admittance, saying they were officers of the law with a warrant for the arrest of Luther Adair, a son of Brice Adair. Brice and Luther Adair, suspecting the purpose of the men, refused to open the door, and seized their arms.
