In this case defendant is a 15-year-old girl who has been cited for contempt, ORS 33.010(1), 1 for her refusal to testify before the Lane County Grand Jury in connection with its investigation of a possible case of sexual abuse in the second degree. Defendant was subpoenaed by the grand jury to testify concerning an incident in which she was the crucial witness and alleged victim. 2 She repeatedly refused to testify, even after having been ordered to do so by the circuit court.
