This case is before the court on remand from the Supreme Court of the United States. Ross v. United States, — U.S. -, 114 S.Ct. 2129, 128 L.Ed.2d 860 (1994). In its remand order, the Court directed that the case be reconsidered in light of its decision in Staples v. United States, — U.S. -, 114 S.Ct. 1793, 128 L.Ed.2d 608 (1994). In that case, the Court held that, in order to obtain a conviction under 26 U.S.C. § 5861, the government must prove that the defendant knew that the weapon he possessed had the characteristics of a weapon which is proscribed by the section. 1 We now reverse the…
