VANDE WALLE, Justice.

Layne A. Lindberg appealed from a district court judgment which awarded damages to Williston Industrial Supply Corporation [“WISCO”] for Lindberg’s breach of a lease-purchase agreement. We reverse and remand for further proceedings.

In 1983 Lindberg and WISCO entered into a lease-purchase agreement for certain oil well equipment. Lindberg agreed to make 24 monthly payments of $2,500 and WISCO agreed to sell the property to Lind-berg for one dollar at the end of the 24-month period.
