Harold Summers brought this ease against Báptist Medical Center Arkadelphia (Baptist), a hospital in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The case arises under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act of 1986 (EMTALA), 42 U.S.C. § 1395dd. Summers claims that he was not appropriately screened for treatment when he was brought in to Baptist’s emergency room after a deer-hunting accident.
