The issue at the heart of this case is the enforceability of anti-assignment clauses in ERISA-governed health insurance plans. Plaintiffs are healthcare providers who brought ten claims against defendant health insurers: four purportedly arising under the federal Employee Retirement Income Security Act ("ERISA") and six supplementary state law claims.
