I. Introduction

The defendant-appellant prosecutes an appeal from his conviction on one count of tax evasion in violation of 26 U.S.C. § 7201 based on his failure to report as income the sum of $90,000.00 he received as a bribe in his capacity as the President of the Board of Education of the Detroit Public Schools. Prior to entering his Alford plea of guilty, the defendant unsuccessfully challenged the admissibility of an intercepted telephone conversation which disclosed the bribe.
