Chapter 231, section 1, of the Public Laws provides that before doing business in this state every foreign corporation, except insurance companies, “shall in writing appoint the secretary of state and his successor in office to be its true and lawful attorney upon whom lawful process in any action or proceeding against it upon any liability arising in this state may be served, and in such writing shall agree that any lawful process against it upon such liability which is served on said attorney shall be of the same legal force and validity as if served on it, and that the authority shall…
