The defendant, S. Lakshmanan, M.D., performed laparoscopic surgery on the plaintiff, R. Kevin Cummings, to remove Kevin’s gallbladder. Kevin suffered a common postoperative complication, a bile leak, that went undiagnosed by Dr. Lakshmanan and the defendant-appellant, Gautam Jha, M.D. Kevin, along with his wife, Pamela R.
