ANDERSON, Circuit Judge:

Bryan F. Jennings, a Florida prisoner sentenced to death for the 1979 murder of Rebecca Kunash, appeals the district court’s denial of his petition for writ of habeas corpus brought pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2254. After denying the writ, the district court granted a certifícate of appealability on Jennings’s claim that his sentence was rendered unconstitutional by the application of two invalid aggravating factors — that the murder was “heinous, atrocious, and cruel” (HAC) and “cold, calculated, and premeditated” (CCP).
